Stéphane Grappelli Jan 26, 1908--Dec. 1, 1997
UPDATE: I forgot to mention that when he and Django were reuinted in New York after the War,
they opened for Duke Ellington. Sheesh, and I thought Elvis Costello/Rockpile/Mink Deville was an untoppable bill.
If I didn't know better, I'd predict him and that Django fellar could get along, having birthdays so close and all.
ReplyDeleteCoincidence? I think not.
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten how long a life this man had and that he was still performing at the age of 85.
Amazing.
Thanks again.
I consider myself damn lucky that in the mid-70s I hung out with people with extraordinary musical taste who just about dragged me to see Grappelli at The Bottom Line in the Village. What an extraordinary evening!
