I had the great good fortune to see Cab Calloway at the Blue Note in the Village around 1985. He'd lost a lot of steam, of course, and the set was mostly an excuse to foist his daughter's singing on us, but time had not dimmed his charisma, and the medley he performed was memorably electric.
Word Verification: "turditi" (an Italian "comic book" made from photographs of turds in amusing situations)
Django became the new religion in our house about a year ago, and my musicianship has improved dramatically thanks to that; as John Jorgensen said at a concert last year, "playing this music is pure joy".
Folks, next summer keep your eye out for the next national tour of Djangofest, and if it is happening even close to where you live (NYC, Chicago, Seattle, San Diego, Portland, San Fran, LA, and joy of joys for us, Crested Butte, Colorado) YOU MUST GO! You will not regret it; there is a resurgance of players and bands; it is indeed pure joy.

Thank you for the Django film. Oh yes, thank you.
Betty Boop (1:14-1:17 in the St. James Infirmary Blues clip) copes so well with every situation!
Fleischer was great - his animation pushes buttons I didn't know I had.
(the blooz is good, too!)
For those who think Clapton is God, try a little Django.
Great stuff. Can't imagine what music Django would've made with the use of those other two fingers.
