18 years. Man, there's a big void in the household today. I know how it feels. Sorry to hear.

There's a reason all [good] bloggers have cats, Mr Riley. Very sorry to hear the news.

Oh, he looks so much like our fantastic departed Rico Suave, one of those crazy black and white guys. I've always loved seeing Mr. Stinky's photo here.
My heart goes out to you.

I'm so sorry to hear, not least because I'm a devout cat person. My condolences; I know the void that leaves in the home.

I'm sorry. We lost our Megan a week ago, and I know how bad it hurts and how much you must miss him.

Not only a ripe old age, but a superlative cat name too. I'm sorry for your loss.

Oh how that sucks. Ours are of a slightly newer vintage but we know the day will come and I dread it mightily. Condolences to you and the Poor Wife.

Condolences on your loss. May the good memories (and after so many years, there will be many) make the pain more bearable.

Condolences. 18 years is a pretty good run -- the Internet says that's like 88 human. Good thing Mr. Stinky lived in a lefty household with entitlements.

Sorry to hear about this, Mr. Riley. Eighteen years is a damn good run for a cat.

Sorry for your loss, Doghouse. We lost 3 cats and a dog in the space of a year. They leave a big hole when they go.

They are a part of the family. Condolences to you and the poor wife. Remember the good times.

Now matter how long they're with us, it's never long enough. Deepest sympathies, Doghouse.

Jellicle cats are the best, but all cats are such unique creatures.

Sorry to hear of Stinky's passing, D.R. We too have a codger kitty, who took up residence with us on Thanksgiving evening, 1993, when he was maybe six months old.

It's always hard to lose such a good friend.

Gone too soon, no matter how old they are.

My deepest sympathies for your loss.

I'm late seeing this - but I'm so sorry. You could tell he had loads of character from his photo. I'm sure he was as happy to be with you as you were to be with him. Cuddle Max the new kitten on Stinky's behalf for us, won't you?

Aw, no! I'm so sorry, Doghouse. Consider this a virtual hug from me to you. (Message to heaven: Hey Hobbes? Kitty? Laddy? Rusty, Cinder, Gizmo? Make Mr. Stinky feel welcome. Hobbes! You could have a "Stink-Off" with him! I bet he'd like that.)

Oh, man.

I'm sorry, Doghouse. Even the stinky ones are the best friends you can wish for.

(Also sorry I didn't see this till Scott mentioned it.)

The husband and I are sorry. We really love cats. We are sorry for your loss.

Our Hanna the Boston Terrier died Oct. 3 after fighting congestive heart failure.

Please leave Mr. Stinky's photo there. It reminds us of our Mr. Inky.
