Yeah. The Noise Kept Me Up All Night.

Times:  Calls Grow for Bloomberg to Make Up His Mind

WHAT  the hell, barkeep; one for the drive home:

"Adding to the potential for national ennui, Mr. Birdsell said, was 'the very long and frustrating Fred Thompson dance over the summer,' which reduced the tolerance for indecision."

Among, I guess, the ten people who actually anticipated Fred Thompson entering the race and who were not internet mopes.  Good God, isn't his performance enough?  Why are tropes like this harder to kill than Rasputin?  Hillary Clinton can't twist her head without being accused of calculating the direction, but Jes' Fred was sittin' on his porch, a'whittlin' and a'thinkin' about running for Prezdent of the Newnighted States.  Pah.  During that "frustrating" time, the sort of people who might give a shit went from around 10% of Republican voters to 22% when he jumped in, and then rapidly back down when people saw him in what must charitably be described as "action."  He just polled below "Sorry, I thought this was the Bingo hall" in the New Hampshire primary.  That's some fucking frustration, and a long time to carry a grudge for something that would now be praised as  "a brilliant piece of strategy" if only people would vote for the guy.

And Bloomberg talks with Chuck Hagel about the Veep slot.  Hasn't the Hamlet of the Prairie been in government all the while evil partisanship took hold?  Wasn't he actually a power in Republican circles whose major claim to bipartisanship, other than holding one or two positions somewhat short of the GOP requisite Batshit Crazy, is that he recognized the War he'd voted for was a disaster a mere twelve-months-and-change after it became a disaster?     Huzzaah, the Union is Saved!

Guess you don't want anyone to comment. I can't register a response.

Well, I guess I can comment, if I use some long-ago discarded identity...

So, I enjoy your writing, but I cannot parse the following:

"...whose major claim to bipartisanship, other than holding one or two positions somewhat short of the GOP requisite Batshit Crazy, is that he recognized the War he'd voted for was a disaster a mere twelve months and change after it became a disaster?"

Doesn't it boil down to:

"whose major claim to bipartisanship...is that he recognized the War he'd voted for was a disaster a mere twelve months and change after it became a disaster?"

Isn't something missing?

Uh, mayb.: - - -, as in "twelve-months-and-change"? 'Zat better? Hell, I dunno what I'm sayin', why should you?

And I've have no idea if there's a problem with comments. I haven't done any thing to 'em. Lemme check, thanks.

Okay, that went through. I did shut off anonymous comments, since they were all in Chinese, if that's what you mean.
